Military Life
Having enlisted with the Royal Artillery in 1939, Harry was transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps before being sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in 1940. He was safely evacuated after the Germans invaded in May, but the humiliation and frustration he felt made him determined to fight back.
Harry became a technical instructor on secret radar technology, but in March 1942 his persistent requests to the War Office led to an interview and the opportunity to volunteer for the French Section of the Special Operations Executive.
